A Day of Doodle Journal Thought
I have found that trying to create—write, draw, imagine— before the dust settles on catastrophe can be frustrating and overwhelming. But here we are, March 2021, and our catastrophe continues. It feels hard to imagine a time where breathing is easy, and I can create with perspective and self-love. Instead of massive projects, I have found myself drawn to microscopic examinations of the day-to-day. Bite-sized chunks of reality that I think are a little bit easier to front. One way I’ve done this is by keeping a periodic doodle journal. Today, I felt particularly in touch with my thoughts —the sum total of my world right now—and was able to reflect with some peace. Perhaps tomorrow I won’t feel as connected. It ebbs and flows, and the daily ways we front with our difficulties — practical, existential, or otherwise — are sometimes easier than others. So treat yourself and your creative brain with softness; some days will be more inspired than others. Regardless, little segments of each day will hold beauty and relief. Documenting the daily, even the mundane, is worthwhile.
