as the time ticks away

by Ines Goei de Piante

As the time ticks away on our little clock

I keep checking to see if it’s still there

The incessant ticking

A reminder that we have a limit

the constant droning of time

Forever escaping between our fingertips, slipping through the cracks in our hands we can’t see. The invisible lines that keep what should be free compact. In a small little box, begging to be let out.

Who knew that love could come with a limit

Who knew that love was something one could time?

I didn’t.

I know you didn’t either.

Blissful ignorance blinded us both, shining its bright light into our naive eyes.

I think the light hurts. It even stings a little.

I keep looking directly at it, somehow unable to stop myself.

All because I love you

As our time grows fainter my heart grows stronger

Stronger with passion

Stronger in love

You see me while I’m trying to see you

Staring at a stranger who mirrors everything and all.

Infinite amounts of electrifying power creating currents around two people.

That’s how I feel when I’m around you.

We will spend the summer drifting away

floating into simplicity and innocence

A summer of fun

As the time ticks away on our little clock

Knowing that soon all will be done

Or will it, who's to say?

What you feel right now can change in a day

You’re my reminder that life isn’t so bad

I’ve given you my heart, along with it a piece of my soul

Forever with you

I am forever with you.

Locked inside and never wanting to be let out.
